ODrive Servo Motor

Post by Brayden_D91 »

To get the best print speeds for the HD9 and HD12 it is looking like you would need the Teknic CPM-SDSK-2321S-RQN. Unfortunately at $305 per servo that is on the expensive side. I came across these open source servo driver conversions. Both motors share the same encoder and have an optional aluminum Nema face plate. The motors also have a built in thermistor and the motor case can be printed with a 40mm fan and be controlled based on motor temperature.

They make two versions (Cost includes aluminum Nema plate and encoder)
Nema 23, $130 each

Nema 34, $162 each

Controller, $139

Total cost is $399 for the Nema 23 variant, and $463 for the Nema 34 variant. Considering this is the cost all in cost. This is a pretty significant savings over the Teknic servo at $305 each.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Looks interesting and (reasonably) affordable.
I might have to work my way up to that from a NEMA17 :D

I think this gentleman can give you a good idea what they are about. He has a few interesting videos regarding the ODrive motors. YouTube name is VEZ3D - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGrrWnjIxRQ

One interesting thing I noticed was that his printer is firmly bolted to the wall!
Not possible to do that at my place, may have to bolt it to the floor. :D
