Frame joints quality (and other frame questions)

Post by ov_darkness »

Hi,
1.I'm wondering if it's worth getting stell L joints (like those): HBLBS6
https://uk.misumi-ec.com/pdf/fa/2014/P2 ... EN_001.pdf
They are 4.45EUR/pc which adds to 115.7EUR

Dold mechatronik has similar, but die casted from ZnAl (this alloy is called sheissmetal, at least in Poland ;) ). They are much cheaper: 1.37EUR.
I'm afraid that they will be not as good as steel ones. On the other hand I'll save 80EUR just on those brackets.

I have strong preference towards genuine, high quality part, preferably not made in China.
On the other hand I'd prefer not to eat rubble for few months after building HevORT ;)

2. Milled surface extrusions for linear rails:
Is it worth it to order those 5 (3xfor Z and 2x for Y) extrusion with milled sides? they will have much larger and flatter contact surface to linear rail.

3. Should I order standard or high rigidity ones?

500mm of standard is 4.15EUR, high rigidity is 6.4EUR.

4. @MirageC is it viable to use other methods of joining profiles? Eg. drilling and tapping holes instead of using L shaped inserts?
Of course I'd reinforce frame adding corner brackets and inner outer steel sheets.

Hello,
The Chinese L joints is perfect for this utilsation.
The only mechanical contraint is the weight of the structure.
For indication a screw metric of 6mm can withstand a force of 100kg.
The standart aliminium is perfect too, little force on the crossbars and of course more rigidity when the bar is vertical.
The most important points I think are the electronics and the guidances, but again it is possible not to eat rubble after you buy it this. ;)

You can optionally add 3030 angle brackets under the bottom bars instead of the L-joints (50 pieces may not be enough)

But beware:

I'd like to avoid buying products made in China building my projects. Both because of ethics and quality reasons.
That's why I'm searching for better alternative, not necessarily the cheapest.
If Item would make 30x30 profiles, I'd go with their solution, even if it'd cost more than 1k EUR (very likely, judging past projects they prepared for me)
I know Motedis (I'm sure they offer chinese merchandise) and I'm aware of the issue with L angle brackets.

I got mine from https://www.aluxprofile.pl/ nothing to complain about :D

I'm still looking for a local supplier on the enclosure... let me know if you figure that one out!

[@firegun I talked with Grzesiek fron Hobby Store. He just bought 4 tons of profiles that are Made in Poland by Altrax to his spec.
He cuts them with 0.07mm precision.

https://hobby-store.pl/en/t-slot-30-typ ... matte.html

I need to calculate if I'd go with them or Misumi, but I can see that Altrax profiles doesn't have this additional groove, and their corner radius is minimal (i think 2mm).

Ivm planning to buy milled Misumi profiles for all my linear rail supports. They are not that expensive.

I've also decided to go with genuine FAG bearings.
Expensive, but I think that they are worth the cost.

For joints I thin I'll go with those and angle brackets:
https://uk.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/1 ... sults2type

I need to think a bit about it.
I also welcome any feedback!
