Layout for electronics is pretty easy as there's not a lot in there!
The Octopus controller can supposedly supply 5V@3A so can power the Raspberry Pi. It also has 12V@4A which should be enough for any fans.

Is that a Spider or an Octopus?

Looking gorgeous, luv it, Geoff! I should do some colours too, makes it look rather special.

Mine is sitting now, waiting for the thermal paste, sigh.

Mine is awaiting oldham couplings (and thermal paste ;) )
I'm spending the spare time learning Klipper. Got it installed on a Pi 4 and also on the SKR Minin E3 I have in the Ender 5
The two part (pi and SKR) will talk to each other but Octoprint is upset about something so breaks the connections. I need to read a LOT more!

Geoff

What does it say when it "breaks the connections"?

Have you got as far as having the front end showing?

Seems it doesn't actually make the connection.
Runnings

Code: Select all

ls /dev/serial/by-id/*
give4s an error

Code: Select all

ls: cannot access '/dev/serial/by-id/*': No such file or directory
This seems to indicate that the Pi is not seening the SKR board at all.
Running lsusb show no USB device other than the built-in stuff - no board. Tried rebuilding and reflashig the firmware via sd card but not joy.

I didn't get this when trying the Octopus board - different error mostly due to no endstops or thermistors (I think)

EDIT: Seems someone missed an important setting for the MKR board when running ' make menuconfig'. I can now get a connection.

Geoff

Ha, good stuff, always fun keeping the old big busy …I whiling away hours and hours doing a new pcb design for a new wheel for my simulator. Fun digging at Eagle and Fusion

Good to see you’re making progress with your setup, will go a long way helping others peeps on the same controller hardware. Stay safe in Tas, we’re in a disaster zone here, blah…
